    Tests comparatifs d'utilisabilité des plateformes Swissbib.ch et Data.bnf.fr

    L’apparition des plateformes en Linked Open Data, permet d’entrevoir de nouvelles possibilitĂ©s d’accĂšs Ă  l’information et offre de nouvelles opportunitĂ©s en termes d’utilisabilitĂ©. Ainsi, ce travail est rĂ©alisĂ© dans le cadre du projet linked.swissbib.ch qui vise Ă  enrichir le catalogue swissbib.ch grĂące au web sĂ©mantique. Le but de ce travail de bachelor est par le biais de tests comparatifs d’évaluer la satisfaction des utilisateurs vis-Ă -vis de ce nouveau type d’outil de recherche et la maniĂšre dont ils s’approprient ce dernier, face Ă  l’utilisation d’un catalogue « standard » de recherche. Ainsi, ces tests se focalisent sur la plateforme data.bnf.fr dĂ©veloppĂ©e en Linked Open Data et le mĂ©ta catalogue swissbib.ch. L’objectif de cette mĂ©thode est de recueillir des donnĂ©es permettant la formulation de recommandations pour le dĂ©veloppement de fonctionnalitĂ©s en Linked Open Data pour la plateforme swissbib.ch. A travers ce mĂ©moire, le processus qui a permis d’élaborer ce test dans l’objectif de rĂ©pondre aux besoins du mandat est prĂ©sentĂ© de mĂȘme que les rĂ©sultats obtenus. Ces derniers mettent en avant le potentiel d’une plateforme en Linked Open Data face Ă  l’utilisation d’un catalogue standard de recherche. En effet, il apparaĂźt que la plateforme data.bnf.fr de par sa structure et ses fonctionnalitĂ©s semble faciliter le processus de prise en main de l’outil et a un impact positif sur la satisfaction des utilisateurs par rapport Ă  l’utilisation du mĂ©ta catalogue swissbib.ch. Par consĂ©quent, la plateforme data.bnf.fr semble ĂȘtre un modĂšle intĂ©ressant Ă  suivre dans le cadre du dĂ©veloppement de fonctionnalitĂ©s en web sĂ©mantique pour swissbib.ch. Toutefois, les tests ont rĂ©vĂ©lĂ© Ă©galement des Ă©lĂ©ments auxquels il faut ĂȘtre attentif dans une logique de structure telle qu’on peut la trouver sur data.bnf.fr. Enfin, ce travail a esquissĂ© le potentiel de prise en main d’une plateforme LOD, notamment pour les participants n’étant pas rodĂ©s Ă  l’utilisation des catalogues de bibliothĂšques. Cet aspect met en avant le potentiel du Linked Open Data afin de rendre les catalogues de bibliothĂšques davantage « user friendly »

    Quantum well infrared photodetectors hardiness to the non ideality of the energy band profile

    We report results on the effect of a non-sharp and disordered potential in Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors (QWIP). Scanning electronic transmission microscopy is used to measure the alloy profile of the structure which is shown to present a gradient of composition along the growth axis. Those measurements are used as inputs to quantify the effect on the detector performance (peak wavelength, spectral broadening and dark current). The influence of the random positioning of the doping is also studied. Finally we demonstrate that QWIP properties are quite robust with regard to the non ideality of the energy band profile

    Geometrical and Physical Properties of Circumbinary Discs in Eccentric Stellar Binaries

    In a previous work (Pichardo et al. 2005), we studied stable configurations for circumstellar discs in eccentric binary systems. We searched for "invariant loops": closed curves (analogous to stable periodic orbits in time-independent potentials) that change shape with the binary orbital phase, as test particles in them move under the influence of the binary potential. This approach allows us to identify stable configurations when pressure forces are unimportant, and dissipation acts only to prevent gas clouds from colliding with one another. We now extend this work to study the main geometrical properties of circumbinary discs. We have studied more than 100 cases with a range in eccentricity 0 .le. e .le. 0.9, and mass ratio 0.1 .le. q .le. 0.9. Although gas dynamics may impose further restrictions, our study sets lower stable bounds for the size of the central hole in a simple and computationally cheap way, with a relation that depends on the eccentricity and mass ratio of the central binary. We extend our previous studies and focus on an important component of these systems: circumbinary discs. The radii for stable orbits that can host gas in circumbinary discs are sharply constrained as a function of the binary's eccentricity. The circumbinary disc configurations are almost circular, with eccentricity e_d < 0.15, but if the mass ratio is unequal the disk is offset from the center of mass of the system. We compare our results with other models, and with observations of specific systems like GG Tauri A, UY Aurigae, HD 98800 B, and Fomalhaut, restricting the plausible parameters for the binary.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures and 6 tables.     A lucky imaging multiplicity study of exoplanet host stars

    To understand the influence of additional wide stellar companions on planet formation, it is necessary to determine the fraction of multiple stellar systems amongst the known extrasolar planet population. We target recently discovered radial velocity exoplanetary systems observable from the northern hemisphere and with sufficiently high proper motion to detect stellar companions via direct imaging. We utilize the Calar Alto 2.2m telescope in combination with its lucky imaging camera AstraLux. 71 planet host stars have been observed so far, yielding one new low-mass (0.239 \pm 0.022M\odot) stellar companion, 4.5 arcsec (227AU of projected separation) northeast of the planet host star HD185269, detected via astrometry with AstraLux. We also present follow-up astrometry on three previously discovered stellar companions, showing for the first time common proper motion of the 0.5 arcsec companion to HD126614. Additionally, we determined the achieved detection limits for all targets, which allows us to characterize the detection space of possible further companions of these stars

    International audienceA new approach based on measurements of nitrate and boron isotopic composition associated with microbiological indicators for the determination of nitrate origin in karstic groundwater (SW, France) is presented. Nitrate and boron isotopic data indicate an animal source of nitrate (delta N-15-NO3- > 5 parts per thousand, delta O-18-NO3- < 10 parts per thousand and delta B-11 similar to 25 parts per thousand). Microorganism detection (bacteriophages) confirmed contamination from animal sources and proved fast water transfer (2-3 days) from surface to groundwater

    Attachment‑based parent–adolescent interaction linked to visual attention and autonomic arousal to distress and comfort stimuli

    In infancy and in the early years of life, emotion regulation and attachment relationships with parents are tightly intertwined. However, whether this link persists into adolescence has not yet been established and requires exploration. This pilot study utilizes an experimental design to assess the patterns of parent–adolescent interactions that are hypothesised to be related to two specific aspects of adolescents’ emotion regulation, namely: visual attention and autonomic arousal to distress and comfort stimuli. Two innovative and ecologically valid methodologies were utilized to assess (a) patterns of attachment-based parent–adolescent interactions among 39 adolescent–parent dyads from the general population, using the Goal-corrected Partnership in Adolescence Coding System (Lyons-Ruth et al. Goal corrected partnership in adolescence coding system (GPACS), 2005) applied to a conflict discussion task; (b) the two aspects of adolescent emotion regulation were assessed with the Visual/Autonomic Regulation of Emotions Assessment (VAREA) (Vulliez-Coady et al. Visual/Autonomic Regulation of Emotions Assessment, VAREA) paradigm, an attachment-related, emotionally arousing experimental procedure, using a distress-then-comfort paradigm, in conjunction to an eye-tracker synchronized with a physiological device that measured gaze and skin conductance response, (SCR), or emotional reactivity. In line with research in infancy, as predicted, markers of secure parent–adolescent interaction were linked to higher amplitude of SCR for distress and comfort pictures, and with longer attention to comfort pictures. On the other hand, parental role-confusion was associated with less time spent on comfort pictures by the adolescent. Overall, this pilot study suggests that interventions supporting collaborative communication between adolescents and their parents, as well as working to reduce parental role-confusion, may improve adaptive adolescent emotion regulation as assessed via physiological measures

    AXES at TRECVid 2011

    The AXES project participated in the interactive known-item search task (KIS) and the interactive instance search task (INS) for TRECVid 2011. We used the same system architecture and a nearly identical user interface for both the KIS and INS tasks. Both systems made use of text search on ASR, visual concept detectors, and visual similarity search. The user experiments were carried out with media professionals and media students at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, with media professionals performing the KIS task and media students participating in the INS task.     Co-occurrence, ecological profiles and geographical distribution based on unique molecular identifiers of the common freshwater diatoms Fragilaria and Ulnaria

    Diatom taxonomy has evolved in recent years, with many new species described and new approaches such as molecular genetics showing the existence of cryptic diversity within currently accepted species. This cryptic diversity is not well understood even for common freshwater genera such as Fragilaria and Ulnaria. The purpose of our study was to define taxon-specific ecological profiles and geographical distributions for unique molecular identifiers (amplicon sequence variants, ASVs) linked to curated taxonomy for these genera. Our goal is to contribute to the development of ecological assessment methods, and to the understanding why we often observe so many diatom species co-occurring in a single sample. We filtered a large (770 samples) metabarcoding dataset with linked environmental data covering several countries in Europe for genetic variants (ASVs) assigned to currently accepted species of our target genera. We studied the geographical distribution of the ASVs, and tested for ASV-pair co-occurrence. We modelled ASV-specific preferences for pH, alkalinity, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and conductivity, and analysed their preference for lakes or streams as habitat. Our study confirmed that there seems to be no general geographical barrier for the distribution of freshwater benthic diatom ASVs in Europe, but that dispersal is not rapid enough to hide historical events. The Fragilaria and Ulnaria ASVs in our study showed considerable overlap in geographical distribution, habitat and ecological preferences. We found evidence that only large differences in preferences for the analysed water chemistry variables prevented the co-occurrence of ASVs at the same sites. Instead, Fragilaria and Ulnaria ASVs co-occurred frequently in samples. We found subtle differences in ecological preferences for some ASV pairs, which might in part explain the co-occurrence by the avoidance of direct competition. However, the great overlap in distribution and ecological preferences suggests that other factors not studied here were also responsible for the observed co-occurrences and high richness of ASVs found at many sites. To our knowledge, we are the first to use ASVs in combination with a curated taxonomy to understand co-occurrence, specific ecological profiles and large-scale geographical distribution for unique identifiers not biased by the quality of reference databases, clustering methods, or non-harmonized morphological identification. Thus, our results can now be used in subsequent projects to interpret ASV occurrences, e.g. for development of ecological assessment methods
